11 boats made the trip to Hayling Island to enjoy the 12 knots and sunshine, near perfect sailing conditions, despite the forecast at the beginning of the week of 2 knots and rain.
With a very high standard of sailing, at the end of the first day only 4 points separated the top 4 boats.
The come back tale of the day belonged to Jeni and Kate Tod (566) who after a tangle with a RS700 in the first race resulting in finishing 7th, came back to take first in the second race and second in the third.
The wind increased for the Sunday but was forecast to drop off in time for the last race. With everything to play for and the wind shifting by plus and minus 10 degrees places were traded through out the fleet right up to the finish line, fortune favoured the brave with big gains made by gibe dropping on starboard approaching the leeward mark and making a strong mark rounding pushing those opting for the easy harden-up out around the out side.
Despite a strong come back of 2nd, 1st and 1st on the final day Alex and Brian (534) had to settle for second against Chris and Nickki Catt (764) who took the win by only 1 point. Andy and Elizabeth (584) droped to 3rd after some spirited tacking duels with Alex and Brian.
A close finish to an excellent open meeting, with all to play for the circuit moves to Datchet Water SC for the next event on the 9th of May.
See you on the water.....
